Events
April 6: The reign of Thamar of Georgia began at the death of Georges III. A peak of the Kingdom of Georgia during the reign of Queen Thamar (end of 1213). It pushes its armies to Trebizonde, extending its kingdom from the Black Sea to the Caspian and Caucasus Sea to Azerbaijan, and is at the origin of a true cultural revival.
June: The Patriarch of Jerusalem, the Grand Master of the Temple and the Grand Master of the Hospital travel to Europe for help from the pope and Western rulers. The mission was received in October by Pope Lucius III in Verona, where Arnaud de Toroge died. She was in Paris in February 1185, then in Reading with King Henry II of England, who refused to meet, but promised him subsidies.
July - August: Saladin is conducting raids in Galilee.
August 10: Abu Yusuf Yaqub al-Mansur is proclaimed Caliph Almohade in Seville (1184-1199). He set up his capital in Rabat (Ribat and Fath, "the convent, the victory camp").
23 August: Saladin again puts the siege in front of Kerak and raises it on 5 September when the French troops arrive.
September 7-10: Saladin raid in Samaria during his retreat to Damascus. Marie Comnène defends Nablus. Sebaste bought her impunity by releasing many Muslim prisoners. Zarin's temple square is destroyed.
13 November: Landing of the Balearic Almoravids, the Banu Ghaniya, in Cangie, then in the hands of the Almohads. They found support among the Hammadids and Hilalians and carried out devastating raids for fifty years throughout the Central and Eastern Maghreb.
Isaac Comnène declared himself independent sovereign of Cyprus (end of 1191).
Baudouin IV of Jerusalem is increasingly affected by leprosy. Two parties are fighting for power. That of Raymond de Tripoli, favorable to an arrangement with Saladin and that of Renaud de Châtillon, the former prince of Antioch.
Japan
February, war of Gempei: Minamoto no Yoshinaka, wanting to take control of the Minamoto clan, sacking Kyōto, burning the palace of Hōjūji, removing the retired Emperor Go-Shirakawa and proclaiming himself Shogun.
19 February: Minamoto no Yoshitsune defeats his cousin Minamoto no Yoshinaka at the second battle of Uji.
21 February: Minamoto no Yoshinaka was killed at the Battle of Awazu.
18 March: victory of the Minamoto over the Taira at the Battle of Ichi-no-Tani.
8 October: Minamoto no Noriyori goes on a campaign in the Chūgoku region with a force of men. In Kojima, he attacked with his riders a Taira force that fled by boat.

March: Philippe Auguste gathers the assembly of Senlis, where he threatens to break his union for inbreeding with Isabelle de Hainaut.
