Holy Roman Empire/Kingdom of Sicily
Beginning of the year: King Konrad IV. On his Italian train reaches the Kingdom of Sicily. Naples and Capua initially refuse obedience. The relationship with his half-brother Manfred, who has led the reign in the kingdom, also deteriorates.
February 11: In Hainburg, the Czech heir to the throne Ottokar Přemysl marries Margaret von Babenberg, who is almost 30 years older, in order to underpin his claims to the Babenberg possessions. He has the Privilegium minus and its confirmation by Emperor Frederick II from 1245 handed over. Margarete thereby transfers the rule of the duchies of Austria and Styria to her husband. Pope Innocent IV confirms the legal surrender of the two duchies on May 6. In a document dated 16 June 1252, in which the Propstei Ardagger is secured her toll right, Margarete calls herself for the first time ducissa Austrie et Stirie ac marchionissa Moravie in addition to her title Romanorum (quondam) regina.
9 June: After the death of Otto I, his sons Albrecht I and Johann I initially rule the Duchy of Braunschweig-Lüneburg together.
December 27: In the Peace of Lieserhofen, Count Albert III of Tyrol and his son-in-law Meinhard III finish. of Görz on the one hand and the Salzburg Elect Philipp von Spanheim and his father Duke Bernhard von Carinthia on the other hand a fierce feud and reorganize their spheres of influence.

June 29: When King Abel of Denmark is assassinated on an expedition against the Frisians, his son Waldemar has been in the captivity of the Cologne Archbishop Konrad von Hochstaden for two years. Therefore, Abel’s younger brother Christoph I. is elected Danish king and crowned at Christmas in the Cathedral of Lund. Waldemar's mother Mechthild von Holstein and her brothers then try to win at least the Duchy of Schleswig for him.
