### Europe
In Africa, King Louis IX of France launched the Eighth Crusade in an attempt to recapture the Crusader States from the Mamluk sultan Baibars. The crusade began on August 10, 1262, when Yekuno Amlak overthrew the Zagwe dynasty in Ethiopia and established the Solomonic dynasty, which would last until 1974.
In Asia, Pemberontakan Sambyeolcho broke out against the Goryeo dynasty in Korea. The Nizari Ismaili garrison of Ascalon played a crucial role during this period. In Europe, the Roman Catholic Church condemned Averroism, a philosophical theory based on Aristotle's works, and banned its aspects.

In Iran, Ilkhan Abaqa joined the ninth crusade led by Prince Edward of England against the Mamluks of Egypt in Syria from 1271-1172. A ten-year truce was signed with Sultan Baybars during this period.
Kubilai Khan founded the Yuan dynasty in 1271 and took Hangzhou (1276) before completing the conquest of Song China (1279). The Mongols attempted to invade Japan twice, in 1274 and 1281, but were unsuccessful due to their belief that they would find gold there.

Mamluk Egypt vassalized the kingdom of Makuria in Nubia
