#### January
* Erik of Pomerania is deposed from the Swedish throne for the second time, only three months after having been reinstated.
#### March
* 11 January: Karl Knutsson Bonde, together with Engelbrekt, becomes the Rikshövitsman of the Swedish military.
* 21 March: Italian archaeologist Cyriacus of Ancona rediscovers the site of Delphi, eight centuries after it had been abandoned.
#### April
* 13 April: Troops under the orders of former Governor Jean de Villiers de L’Isle-Adam invade English-occupied Paris during the Hundred Years’ War and drive opponents out of the city.
* The reconquest of Île-de-France by France begins.
#### May
* 4 May: Swedish leader Engelbrekt Engelbrektsson is assassinated by Magnus Bengtsson while he was on his way to meet with Erik XIII. This event initiates the Engelbrekt uprising against Erik XIII, which eventually collapses.
* Karl Knutsson Bonde is named Reichshofmann leader of the Swedish army.

* 25 June: Scottish Princess Margaret Stewart marries the future French king Louis XI in Tours.
* The Incorporated Guild of Smiths in Newcastle upon Tyne (England) is founded.

* 5 July: The Hussite Wars effectively end in Bohemia with the Iglau Compactates, which recognize Sigismund as King of Bohemia.
* August 14: In the assembly in Iglau, Sigismund is appointed king of the Czech Republic.
* August 23: Sigismund moves into Prague.

* 30 August: Brunelleschi's Dome at Florence Cathedral is dedicated.
* A attempt by Spain to recapture Gibraltar from the Moors fails as expedition leader Enrique Pérez de Guzmán drowns along with 40 of his men after reaching shore.

* 1 September: Eric of Pomerania is once again reinstated as king of Sweden.
* 10 September: The Battle of Piperdean during the Anglo-Scottish Border Wars is fought between English troops under the command of Henry Percy, 2nd Earl of Northumberland, and a Scottish army led by William Douglas, 2nd Earl of Angus. The only short battle ended with a clear Scottish victory.

* 1st October: King James I of Scotland gives royal assent to numerous acts recently passed by the Scottish parliament, including the Place of Trial Act ("That the kingis Justice hald the law quhair the trespes wes done."), the Englishmen Act (The "Location of Trials Act").

* 20 December: King Charles VII of France arrives in Lyon to personally begin an investigation into the rebellion that had lasted in the city for two months, ending on June 6, 1436.
* 30 December: In the Holy Roman Empire, at Heidelberg, 13-year-old Ludwig IV of Wittelsbach becomes the new Elector of Palatine, one of the seven imperial electors and ruler of the Rhineland, upon the death of his father, Ludwig III.
### Politics and World Affairs
The Hussite Wars effectively end in Bohemia with the Iglau Compactates, which recognize Sigismund as King of Bohemia. In the assembly in Iglau, Sigismund is appointed king of the Czech Republic on August 14. He moves into Prague on August 23.
In Eastern Europe, Vlad II Dracul overthrows his younger half-brother Alexandru Aldea, who has had good relations with the Ottoman Empire, and ascends the throne as Prince of Wallachia in its capital Târgoviște.
In France, troops under the orders of former Governor Jean de Villiers de L’Isle-Adam invade English-occupied Paris during the Hundred Years’ War and drive opponents out of the city on April 13. The reconquest of Île-de-France by France begins.

Conrad Heyden, town clerk in Schwäbisch Hall, writes the Klagspiegel as the oldest German-language law book on Roman law in July 1436. It is considered an important pioneer of practical recipe books.
### Asia
Khai Bua Ban, ruler of the Thai kingdom of Lan Xang, is assassinated at the behest of his aunt Keo Phim Fa, who takes her half-brother Kham Koert to the throne in 1436. The city of Chișinău in present-day Moldova is mentioned for the first time in documents on July 17.
### Portugal
Afonso Gonçalves Baldaia sets off on a new journey on behalf of Henry the Navigator, reaching an area in the south of what is now Western Sahara, later called the Río de Oro. The settlement of the Azores island of São Miguel begins during this time.
