January 6, Japan: Shingen Takeda won over Ieyasu Tokugawa and Nobunaga Oda at the Battle of Mikata-Ga-Hara.
February 26, India: Akbar takes Surat.
31 March: in the area of Number of Dios (Colón), Francis Drake and the French corsair Guillaume Le Testu capture the convoys of mules that bring from Panama the gold of Peru. Guillaume the Testu is killed covering Drake's retreat, which can bury 15 tons of silver in the silt of a river and carry a few bags of gold.
13 May, Japan: Shingen Takeda dies and his troops disband. Oda Nobunaga encircled Kyôto, burned his suburbs and then overturned and exiled the last Shogun Ashikaga, Yoshiaki (July). Oda Nobunaga now reigns over more than half of Japan.
6 July, Argentina: Jerónimo Luis de Cabrera founded Córdoba de la Nueva Andalucía.

28 January: Confederation of Warsaw, setting the conditions for the election of the king of Poland by the nobles and establishing respect for religious tolerance. Poland has about 560 Protestant churches. All religious groups are represented and enjoy protection in the high nobility (Calvinists in Lithuania and Krakow, Moravian brothers, Socienians, Lutherans in Eastern Prussia). Beginning of Silver Age in Poland (end in 1648).
9 February: Repression of the Matija Gubec revolt at the Battle of Stubičke Toplice.
