The 1944-45 Cypriot Cup
The 1944-45 Cyprus Cup was the eighth edition of the Cyprus Cup, a domestic association football competition held in Cyprus. Following a three-year break due to World War II, the competition resumed with six teams participating from the top division of Cypriot football.
Competition Format and Final
The tournament consisted of three rounds: quarters, semi-finals, and finals. The home team was determined by draw for each match, while the two teams chosen directly advanced to the semi-finals. If a match ended in a draw, extra time was played; if no winner emerged after that, a repeat game on the opposing team's field was scheduled.
The final took place on April 15, 1945, at the GSP Stadium in Nicosia. EPA Larnaka defeated defending champion APOEL Nicosia to claim their first Cypriot Cup title.
Participants and Results
Six teams from the top division of Cypriot football participated in the competition. The quarterfinals were played on February 18, 1945, with all matches taking place in one game. If a draw occurred, the match was extended by two 15-minute periods; if no winner emerged after that, a repeat game on the opposing team's field was scheduled.
The semi-finals followed, also featuring single-game matches. The final saw EPA Larnaka emerge victorious against APOEL Nicosia, securing their first Cypriot Cup title in the process.
