Tennis: Serena Williams defeats Jelena Jankovic and conquers the American Open in the women's singles final, for the 3rd time, regaining the number one title to women in the international ranking for the first time in five years. (The New York Times)
7 September
Tennis: For the fifth consecutive time Swiss Roger Federer conquers the single in the American Open to men, with a victory over Andy Murray, 6–2, 7–5, 6–2.
The first Greek medals in the 13th Paralympics of Beijing are won by the swimmers Charalambos Taiganidis at 100 m butterfly S13 and George Kapelakis at 200 m free

Charalambos Taiganidis wins a bronze medal in the 400 m free men S13 to 4.23.59 at the Beijing Paralympic Games.
Carolina Pelendritu wins a gold medal at the 100 m women's front SB12 with 1,17,58 at the Beijing Paralympic Games.
10 September
Liquid track:
A gold medal for Greece at the 13th Paralympic Games is won by Charalambos Taiganidis in swimming, with a worldwide performance at 100 m free (53.37), in the category S13. Giannis First at 400 m of the T13 class with a time of 49.99 received a bronze medal.
Spyros Gianniotis wins a gold medal at 5 km in the European swimming championship in open water held in Dubrovnik, with a time of 52 ́57 ́02.
12 September
Charalambos Taiganidis wins a fourth medal in the Paralympic Games of Beijing. This time he won a bronze medal at 200m. mixed individual of category SM13. Besides, Alexandra Dimoglu wins a silver medal at 400m. Women T13 with a time of 56.09.
13 September
Gold medal at 50m. free in men's swimming, category S2, won by George Kapelliakis at the Paralympic Games. Also, Alexandra Dimoglu wins a bronze medal in the 200 m of women of the T13 class.
14 September
Tennis: Russia retains its title at the Fed Cup, defeating the Spain team in Madrid, with a 4-0.
Motor sport: German Sebastian Fetel conquers victory at the Grand Prince of Formula One in Moncha and becomes the youngest driver in history winning Formula One race.
Football in the sand: The Greek national teams manage for the first time in their history to climb the podium simultaneously, in an international event. Vaso Karadashiu and Vicky Arvanitis defeat Nistrom/Nistrom (Finland) 2-1 in the final of the last European championship tournament held in Blackpool, England winning the gold medal. Also, Thalia Koutromanidou and Maria Ciartsiani won the Latvians Jourson/Minoussa 2–0 in the small final, winning a bronze medal.
