Gas conflict: Ukraine's supply contract for Russian gas expired, without a new tariff agreement being reached, Gazprom states that it has shut down the valves that supply the pipelines to Ukraine but has increased them to other European countries in order to reassure its customers, who fear disruption in supply. Europeans are concerned about whether Ukrainians will allow gas to flow to the rest of Europe (80 % of Russian gas goes through their gas pipelines) without siphoning through, thus depriving several European Union countries of part of their supply, as in .

Gas conflict: Ukraine's presidency for energy security warned Europe against gas supply problems, following its conflict with Russia on this issue: "If the Russian side delivers no more gas than it currently does, in about ten days, there can be very serious technological problems [...] If the Ukrainian gas pipeline does not receive gas volumes, the pressure in the pipes will decrease. Therefore, automatically, regardless of staff, there will be interruptions. The system will be forced to stop to bring pressure back." On Friday, the fall in supplies was 6% in Poland, 30% in Romania and 10% in Bulgaria. Overall, on Saturday, 80% of deliveries were insured. Ukraine has 17 billion m or 65 days of winter consumption. Gas conflict: in response to Russia, which calls on the European Union to monitor the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine, the European Commission believes that both countries "must ensure that the gas purchased by Europe arrives in Europe and that is what we monitor [...] it is a bilateral problem and it is up to both parties to resolve it". The European Union calls for "an urgent solution" to the Russian-Ukrainian gas dispute and calls for an "immediate resumption" of all deliveries to Europe. European Commission President José Manuel Barroso has agreed with Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymochenko to send "emergency" European observers to monitor the transit of Russian gas
