The racing calendar has been extensively changed compared to the previous season. The race calendar no longer included the Monte Carlo Rally and the Scotland Rally. There were four new events in Northern Ireland, San Marino, Romania, and Bulgaria. The total number of events increased from eleven to 13. Later in the season, it was announced that the Canon Mecsek Rally in Hungary will be replaced by the Targa Florio in Sicily.
Results
The season was marred by the death of Gareth "Jaffa" Roberts, co-driver to Craig Breen, on stage eight of the Targa Florio Rally Internazionale Di Sicilia. The rally was cancelled after the eighth of eleven stages due to this serious accident.
Other notable results include:
* Laszlo Vizin finished third at the Prime Yalta Rally, but did not receive any points.
* Igtnat Isaev took third place in the Rally Sliven, but was not ranked for the overall championship.
Pilot Championship
The season was the last of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge before it merged with the European Championship in 2013. The top eight drivers from each brand added up points for the championship.
