2012 Summer Paralympic Games

The 2012 Summer Paralympic Games were held in London, UK from August 29 to September 9, 2012.

Selection of Host City

The selection process for the host city began on July 15, 2003, when the International Olympic Committee (IOC) evaluated applications from nine cities: Havana, Istanbul, Leipzig, London, Madrid, Moscow, New York, Paris, and Rio de Janeiro. After reviewing all application statements, the IOC narrowed down the list to five cities in May 2004: Madrid, Moscow, New York, Paris, and London.

All five cities submitted necessary documents by November 19, 2004, and were inspected by IOC officials between February and March 2005. The final decision was made at the 117th IOC Session in Singapore on July 6, 2005, where London was chosen as the host city for the 2012 Summer Paralympic Games.
