Disasters
Winter: A strong seaquake in the Gulf of Corinth triggers a tidal wave that completely destroys the important Greek city of Helike and costs the lives of almost all inhabitants. The water does not flow back after the wave has subsided, but for several centuries forms a lagoon from which the ruins of the city protrude. The cities of Aigai, Olenos and Rhypes are also abandoned by the population because of their desolate condition. This natural disaster is seen by some as a historical background for the legend of the sinking of Atlantis. It was associated by contemporaries with the appearance of the Great Comet of 373 BC.
Died
