Achaean Tribe
**Achaeans**
================
The Achaeans (Greek: Ἀχαιοί, Achaiói) were one of the four major ancient Greek tribes, along with the Ionians, Dorians, and Aeolians. They played a significant role in shaping the history of Greece.
### Origins and Migration
The ancestors of the Achaeans originally lived in the Danube lowland or even in the steppes of the Northern Black Sea region. From there, they migrated to Thessaly around the beginning of the 2nd millennium BC, and later to the Peloponnese peninsula. In the epic language of Homer's Iliad, Achaeans referred to all the Greeks of the Peloponnese.
### Early States
The first early city-states of the Achaeans were formed in the first half of the 2nd millennium BC during the Bronze Age. These states included Mycenae, Tiryns, Pylos, and Athens. Later, in the Peloponnese, the Achaeans formed the state of Argos around 1500 BC.
### Language and Culture
The language spoken by the Achaeans was known as the Achaean dialect, which is believed to be related to the Minoan language. The Achaeans were also known for their advanced culture, which included a system of writing (Linear B) and a complex administrative system.
### Involvement in Greek History
The Achaeans played a significant role in the epic events described in Homer's Iliad, where they are referred to as the main protagonists. They were also involved in the Trojan War, alongside other Greek tribes.
