Adolf VIII, Count of Holstein-Pinneberg and Schaumburg
Life and Reign
Adolf VIII († 13 October 1370 in Famagusta, Cyprus) was a ruling count of Holstein-Pinneberg and Schaumburg. He ruled from 1353 until his death in 1370.
Family and Parentage
He was the eldest son of Count Adolf VII von Holstein-Schaumburg (1297 – 5 June 1354) and Heilwig zur Lippe. His younger brother Gerhard II († 1366) was Bishop of Minden, and his successor was his younger brother Otto.
Marriage
Adolf VIII married Helena († 1426), daughter of Count Erich I von Hoya and Helena von Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel, daughter of Duke Magnus II von Braunschweig-Lüneburg.
Conquests and Death
He conquered Pinneberg Castle by an unknown family of knights, probably shortly before his departure for a pilgrimage to the Holy Land on the tomb of Christ. He died on 13 October 1370 in Famagusta, Cyprus, during this pilgrimage, leaving no heir behind.
