Amity VIII
Amadeus VIII of Savoy
Early Life and Family
Amadeus VIII of Savoy (4 September 1383 – 7 January 1451), also known as the Peacekeeper, was a member of the House of Savoy. He was born in Chambéry, Savoy County, to Amadeus VII of Savoy, called the Red Count, and his wife Bona de Berry.
Titles and Reign
Amadeus VIII held various titles throughout his life:
* 19th Earl of Savoya (1391)
* First Duke of Savoia (1416)
* Prince of Piedmont
* Count of Aosta, Geneva, Morien, and Nice
* Antipope Felix V (1439-1449)
Antipapacy
From July 24, 1440 to April 7, 1499, Amadeus VIII was the last antipope named Felix V. He willingly obeyed in the name of Christian unity under Pope Nicholas V, who gave him the title of cardinal.
Military Campaigns and Legacy
Amadeus VIII is considered one of the most sedentary sovereigns of the House of Savoy. During his reign, he never engaged in a fight within Savoy, despite being surrounded by the Hundred Years' War. However, he used force several times to maintain control, creating an army of 20,000 men that was often sought after.
Family
Amadeus VIII had two sisters:
* Bona (1388-1432), mistress of Piedmont as wife of Louis Savoy-Achaïa (1364-1418)
* Another sister is not mentioned in the provided sources, but it's likely a minor or incorrect information.
Ancestry
Amadeus VIII's grandparents on his father's side were Amadei VI, Count of Zelen, and Bona de Bourbon. On his mother's side, they were Jean de Berry, Duke of Berry and Overne, and Jeanne de Armagnac.
