Early Life and Education
Anastasios Andreou was born in 1877 in Limassol, Cyprus. He studied at the Greek School of Limassol, where he achieved notable success as a multi-victorious champion.
Career
Andreou was a successful athlete who competed in various events. In 1896, he participated in the first Pan Cypriot games, winning the 100 metres and 110 metres hurdles. He also represented Cyprus in the first Pan-Hellenic Games in the 110 metres hurdling.
At the 1896 Summer Olympics in Athens, Andreou competed in the 110 meters disabled competitions. Although he was eliminated in the first series, his participation marked a significant milestone for Cypriot athletes at the Olympic Games.
Military Service and Later Life
During the Greek-Turkish war of 1897, Andreou served as a volunteer in the Greek army and fought in several battles, including Domokon Derven, Phoulnea, and Farsala.
After his military service, Andreou married Penelope Eraclidou and had one son and two daughters. He died on December 15, 1947.
