Argaki is situated two kilometers northwest of Katokopia/Zümrütköy and five kilometers southeast of Morphou/Güzelyurt. The village's name, Argaki, means "small stream" in Greek, which refers to a nearby watercourse.
History
Until 1974, the village was mixed, with both Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots living together. However, after the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974, the village became part of Northern Cyprus. In 1975, the Turkish Cypriot population changed their name to Akçay, meaning "small white stream".

Population trends
Historically, Argaki has been a mixed village. The 1831 Ottoman census showed that Christians (Greek Cypriots) constituted the majority of the inhabitants (60%). By 1891, this percentage had increased to 74%. During the British period, while the Greek Cypriot population of the village increased significantly, the Turkish Cypriot population decreased.
