"Ariadne"

--- CONTENT ---
Ariadnia was an ancient festival mainly held in Naxos, as well as in Delos and Cyprus in honor of Ariadne. Specifically in Naxos there were two separate festivals with the same name. One was dedicated to the abandoned Ariadne by Theseus, and the other in honor of the wife of the god Dionysus and the mother of Staphylos and Oinopea, who according to local mythology were different persons.
In the other areas the festival concerned the Cretan daughter Ariadne of Minos.

Ariadnia was also held in ancient Athens, which during classical times had been incorporated into the festivals held in honor of Dionysus in the so-called Oschoforia.
