"Balkan Closed Athletics Games 2016"

The 2016 Balkan Closed Athletics Games was the 21st event of the Balkan Closed Athletics Games, organised under the supervision of the Association of Balkan Athletics Federations. The event took place at Atakoy Athletics Arina, Istanbul, on 27 February 2016. This was the biggest participation in Atakoy Athletics Arina's history and the fifth consecutive time the city hosted the event since 2012, with the next moving to Belgrade, Serbia for 2017.

244 athletes participated in the games, twelve men and women events were held and athletes from the 16 member countries of the Union took part. Israel participated for the first time as a new member of the Union. Two countries, Azerbaijan and Kosovo took part outside the competition as visitors, with the second seeking to become a member of the Union, after joining IAAF and EAA in 2015.

A country champion in the score emerged Turkey, with 139 points in total, 74.5 points and 65 points in men and women respectively. Romania won second place with 135 points, 73 points and 62 points in men and women, and the third Greece with 106.5 points, 50 points and 56.5 points in men and women.

Romania dominated the medal table in the first place with 7 gold. The second and third places were filled out by Turkey with 6 golds and Serbia with 3 gold.

Two racing records were shot down at 1500 meters and 4x400 meters of women's relay and a Greek National Teen Record.

Place of business

The event took place in Atakoy Athletics Arina, Istanbul for the fifth and final consecutive year since 2012, with the next moving to Belgrade, Serbia for 2017. Atakoy Athletics Arina is a closed track space opened on January 27, 2012, has a capacity of 7,450 spectators and cost 11,000,000 euros.

The site was built specifically for the 2012 World Championship of Closed Athletics and is the first closed space for track in the country. Also after its construction the Turkish Championship of Closed Athletics was first organized in 2012.
