Pera Chorio-Isos is a complex of communities in Nicosia Province in Cyprus. It consists of the communities of Pera Village and Island. Each community has its own Community Council but there is also a Community Complex Council.
It borders with: Dali, Kochiati, Alhambra, Latsia, Cherry and Saint Barbara. It consists of two communities, the Island and Pera Chorio, which have separate self-government but common Community Council, the Community Council of Beyond Village-Island.
The President of the Beyond Village-Island Improvement Council is the respective Commune Per Village and Vice President of the Island.
General
The total population of the village is around 4,000 inhabitants, about 1,600 for the island and 2,400 for Pera Chorio. It occupies an area of about 13,558 stairs, 7,102 stairs in the island area and 6,456 stairs in Pera Chorio. The elevation in the area is between 230 (on the river bed of Gialia) and 290 metres (on the hill of Ierakarka) and the average annual rainfall is about 360 mm.
Geologically the area is similar to the geological formation of Nicosia (generally sedimentary rocks). In other words, red and calcareous soils are found on the surface, while at a greater depth are limestone sandstones, pebbles (classical rocks), sandmarks (chemical rocks) and alternating layers of alluvial deposits and chalk.
Island
The island is a village-comopolis of Nicosia Province, and is located about 15 km from the capital (south). It is built on the north bank of the Gialia River to the point where a curve is formed in the river flow. The old Nicosia – Limassol road crosses the village from the middle, while the new road-road, double-directed, passes through the northwest of the village, located in an area that belongs to the community. The island geographically is located almost in the centre of Cyprus, in a very advantageous position in terms of modern transportation, since within 10 minutes one can reach Nicosia, within 20 minutes in Larnaca and 35 minutes in Limassol, due mainly to the passing highways and the adjacent node.
In old times, the village of Island looked like a small island - that's what the old ones said - after wetting around the river Gialia. The river as it came rushing from the mountains of Mahaira was divided into two strands in the area of the Island which were again intersecting towards the East (in the area of Dalion). Also, in one area there were the grooves of windmills that took water from the fields. So the village was named Island or Island.
Beyond Village
Pera Chorio is also a village of Nicosia Province and is built to the south of the river Gialia opposite the island, since their history is inextricably tied. In old times the shepherds had their mantras on the foothills of Ierakarka Mountain (Pera Village-south region of the river) and over time, some began building
