The 1955–56 Cypriot First Division was the 19th season of the Cypriot top-level football league.

Teams

Nine teams participated in the championship:

* AEL (the eventual champions)
* Nea Salamina (promoted from the second-class champion in 1954–55)
* Mars (demoted to Category II 1955–56)

Score System

The win was scored by 2 points, and the tie by 1 point. The defeat gave no rank.

Groups, Stages, and Locations

The teams competed against each other twice, once at home and once away. A champion was declared the team that gathered most points.

Changes Compared to the Previous Period

In relation to the 1954–55 first-class championship, Mars was demoted to Category II 1955–56, while Nea Salamina was promoted from the second-class champion in 1954–55. Chetin Kaya, who left the Cyprus Football Federation, did not participate.
