Cyprus–Kuwait relations
History of Relations
Cyprus was among the first countries to recognize Kuwait's independence in 1961. This marked the beginning of bilateral relations between the two nations.
Diplomatic Missions
Both countries have established embassies in each other's capital cities:
* Cyprus has an embassy in Kuwait City.
* Kuwait has an embassy in Nicosia, the capital of Cyprus.
Additionally, there is a Kuwaiti embassy located on Cypriot territory.
Expatriate Communities and Tourism
There are expatriates from both countries living and working in each other's territories. There have also been tourists visiting and working in both nations over the years.
Recent Developments
In 2011, an embassy of Kuwait was opened in Nicosia, with the President of Cyprus, Dimitris Christofias, attending the opening ceremony. The Ambassador to Cyprus promised that the relations between the two countries would be improved and developed over the next few years. Cyprus also expressed gratitude for the financial assistance it received from Kuwait during its financial crisis.
Representation
Cyprus is represented in Kuwait at the rank of an embassy through its mission in Kuwait City, while Kuwait is represented in Cyprus at the same level through its embassy in Nicosia.
Note: The Hebrew source snippet mentions a Kuwaiti embassy being opened in 2011, but it does not specify that it was in Nicosia. However, based on the information from other sources, it can be inferred that this is likely the case.
