Background
Deepak Sandhu (born 19 December 1948) is a Civil Servant and Indian Information Service Officer of the 1971 batch. She was appointed as the first woman Chief Information Commissioner of India.
Career
Sandhu has held several important positions, including:

Prior to becoming the Chief Information Commissioner in 2009, she served as an information commissioner. She succeeded Satyananda Mishra on 5 September 2013.
Appointment and Tenure
Sandhu was administered the oath of office as the first woman Chief Information Commissioner by the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee. Her tenure as Chief Information Commissioner began on 5 September 2013, and she was due to retire from this position by the end of December 2013.
