Democratic National Party (Cyprus)

The Democratic National Party was a far-right nationalist political party in Cyprus that advocated the union of Cyprus and Greece (Enosis).

History

The party was founded in May 1968 by Takis Evdokas, who was Archbishop Makarios' candidate in the 1968 presidential election. The party represented a political wing described as unitary or anti-macarian right-wing, seeking the continuation of Union policy with Greece.

### Elections

In the July 1970 election, the party received 19,655 votes and 9.80% of the total vote, but due to the majority voting system, it did not elect any Members of Parliament (MPs). In the 1976 election, the party came into common conjunction with the Democratic Alarm, but again failed to elect MPs.

Merger

In 1977, the Democratic National Party merged into the Democratic Rally (DISY).
