"Elias Lalounis"

Elias Lalounis (4 October 1920 – 30 December 2013) was a noted goldsmith, jeweler and jewel designer. He was born in Agia Catherine, Plaka, grew up and lived in Plaka, in the building where the Museum of Jewelry Ilias Lalaouni is housed today. He came from Delphi. Elias Lalounis is the only jewel artist awarded by the French Academy of Fine Arts. He studied Law and Political Sciences at the University of Athens.
His work
In 1940 he took office as director in the jewelry brand of his uncle "Zolota" and created exclusively the designs of jewellery.
In 1968 Elias Lalaunis was separated from the company "Zolota" and created his own operation Elias Lalaunis – Greek Gold SABE.
From 1957 to 2001 he created over 18,000 jewels and miniatures and at least 50 collections, his own inspiration and creation. Gradually he acquired over thirty stores around the world.
Elijah Lalaunis' inspiration was drawn from nature, history, technological progress, man's visit to the Moon, mythology, foreigners, towards him, cultures.
He also studied and revived ancient Greek techniques, and also created new tools, techniques and styles for modern silver goldsmithing such as the technique of repouche, the forged technique, the barbed technique, the technique of the knit chain, the technique of coking and the nailing technique.
Personal life
In 1957 he married Lila Alcijoglu and they had four daughters, Catherine, Dimitra, Maria and Joanna together.
