Fighting Democratic Movement (ADIK)

The Fighting Democratic Movement, also known as ADIK (ΑΔΙΚ in Greek), was a conservative and centrist political party in Cyprus.

History

The party was founded by Dinos Michailidis after he left the Democratic Party, which he had been a part of until 1998. The founding declaration emphasized the movement's commitment to the principles and ideals of the Republic of Cyprus and its objective of responsible intervention in political, economic, and social events.

Founding and Early Years

The party held its founding conference on March 28, 1999, with Dinos Michailidis elected as its first president. In the 2001 parliamentary elections, ADIK received 2.2% of the popular vote and won one of the 56 seats in parliament.

Electoral Performance

In the 2006 parliamentary elections, ADIK failed to elect a member despite electoral cooperation with the European Party, which elected three MPs. The party also supported Tassos Papadopoulos' nomination for president in the 2003 election, which he won.

Later Years and Dissolution

ADIK lost its parliamentary representation in the 2006 elections and subsequently decided to become part of a larger centrist coalition in 2011. However, it is unclear whether this decision led to the party's eventual dissolution or rebranding.
