Franz Schubert

Life and Career

Franz Peter Schubert (January 31, 1797 – November 19, 1828) was an Austrian composer who is considered one of the founders of romanticism in music.

### Early Life and Education

Schubert was born to a musical family. His father, Franz Theodor Schubert, was a teacher at the parish school of Lichtental and an amateur musician. He came from a family of Moravian peasants, while his mother, Elizabeth (née Fitz), was the daughter of a Silesian locksmith. Of their fourteen children, nine died at an early age; two of the survivors, Franz and Ferdinand, made music their profession.

Schubert showed musical ability very early in life. His first mentors were family members: his father taught him to play the violin, while his elder brother taught him to play the piano. At the age of 10, he was accepted into the School of the Imperial Church as a choir boy, where he continued his music studies and also studied theory and music.

### Career

Schubert's works are among the most famous examples of music of the Romantic period. He is known for his 602 vocal compositions (including settings to the words of Schiller, Goethe, and Heine), nine symphonies (the eighth, most famous, being "Unfinished"), as well as a large number of chamber and solo piano works.

Notable Works

Some of Schubert's notable works include:

* 8th Symphony ("Unfinished")
* 9th Symphony
* Fantasy in the Mouth of the Piano in Four Hands
* Cycle of "The Beautiful Tutel"
* Fourth of the "Supermeasure and Death" Archetype (note: this title is not found in other sources, but it appears to be a translation error or misinterpretation)

Also, please note that the "fifth of the blanket fish" and "fourth of the 'supermeasure and death' archetype" titles seem to be mistranslations or errors in the original text.
