George Lakkotrypis

George Lakkotrypis is a Greek Cypriot politician, born on May 30, 1970, in Nicosia. He holds a degree in mathematics and information technology from the University of Kill (1988–1991) and a master's degree in business administration (MBA) from the University of Colorado on a Fulbright scholarship (1993–1995). Prior to his academic pursuits, Lakkotrypis worked as a computer system manager for John and Paraskefaide in Benghazi, Libya (1991–1993), before joining IBM Cyprus in the sales sector.

In 2003, he became the first employee of Microsoft hired in Cyprus, with the mission of developing the company's activities on the island. Subsequently, he took over as CEO of Microsoft Cyprus and Malta. In 2011, Lakkotrypis assumed the position of Director of Public Sector Microsoft Central and Eastern Europe, focusing on expanding the company's presence in 24 countries.

Lakkotrypis has also held significant positions within various government agencies. He was appointed by the Cabinet as a member of the Board of Directors of the Cyprus Investment Invitation Agency (CIPA) from 2008 to 2011. Additionally, he served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Public Gas Company (DEFA), a position he held until his ministries.

In March 2013, Lakkotrypis was appointed Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism in the government of President Nikos Anastasiades. During his tenure, the ministry underwent name changes, with Lakkotrypis taking over as Minister of Energy, Trade, Industry and Tourism. He remained in this position until July 10, 2013.

Lakkotrypis is married to Christiana Lakcottrypi and has two daughters.
