George Georgiou

George Georgiou (Greek: Γεώργιος Γεωργίου) is a Greek Cypriot politician and lawyer. He was born on October 9, 1957.

Education

Georgiou studied public administration and political science at Panteion University. He also pursued studies in law at the Democritus University of Thrace.

Career

Georgiou works as a lawyer. In his early career, he was elected as a councillor in Larnaca Municipality with DISY (Democratic Rally) in the 1986 municipal elections. He was re-elected to the same position in the 1991 and 1996 Municipal elections.

He held various positions within the party, including provincial secretary of NEDISY Famagusta from 1986 to 1993, provincial organizational secretary of DISY Famagusta from 1993 to 1999, and provincial secretary of DISY Famagusta from 1999 to 2003. As of May 2013, he was the vice-chairman of the Political Office of the DESS (Democratic Rally).

Personal Life

Georgiou is married to Sotiroula N. Makrides and has two children, a daughter and a son named Nikos Georgiou.

Politics

As an MP in the Famagusta Electoral District, Georgiou was elected with DISY from 2001 to 2021.
