Glenmalure Park (Milltown)

Glenmalure Park, commonly referred to as Milltown, was a football stadium located on the Southside of Dublin city in Ireland. The stadium served as the home ground for Shamrock Rovers Football Club from 1926 until its demolition in 1990.

The club's relocation to Milltown in 1926 marked a significant shift for Shamrock Rovers, who had previously been based in the Ringsend district. With a secure lease over a long period, the team was able to develop a stadium that could host football matches. The construction of Glenmalure Park was largely undertaken by the club's supporters themselves, with the main platform and open terraces being built on three sides of the ground.

The stadium was officially opened in 1926 with a friendly match against Belfast Celtic Club, which had strong ties to Shamrock Rovers. Bob Fullam scored the team's first goal at Glenmalure Park, marking an important milestone for the club. The stadium's name was later changed to Glenmalure Park in honour of the Cunningham family's ancestral home in the Glenmalura valley of the Wicklow Mountains.

Under the ownership of the Cunninghams, who took over the club in the 1930s, Glenmalure Park underwent significant renovations. The terraces were restored and a roof was built above the terrace opposite the main stand. Despite these changes, the stadium remained largely unchanged until its demolition in 1990, apart from minor modifications such as the installation of floodlights in the early 1980s.

Glenmalure Park hosted several notable matches during its history, including European Cup games against Glasgow Celtic and Apoel Nicosia. The stadium's largest attendance was recorded in 1986, when 18,000 fans attended a match against Glasgow Celtic. However, this record-breaking crowd came just two years after the ground had last witnessed a full house.

The Kilcoyne family, who owned Shamrock Rovers since 1972, sold Glenmalure Park to property developers in 1987. The stadium's final match took place on April 12, 1987, with a FAI Cup semi-final between Shamrock Rovers and Sligo Rovers being attended by approximately 6,000 people.

Following the sale of Glenmalure Park, KRAM attempted to purchase the site but was unsuccessful in matching the offer made by property developers. The stadium's last game at Mill
