**Greco-Turkish Wars**

The Greco-Turkish Wars were a series of conflicts between Greece and the Ottoman Empire, as well as its successor states, from the 18th century to the 20th century.

### Early Conflicts (1770-1829)

* The **Orlov Revolt** (1770) was the first major organized revolt by Greeks against the Ottoman Empire, supported by Russia.
* The **Greek War of Independence** (1821–1830) was a prolonged conflict that ultimately led to Greek independence from the Ottoman Empire.

### 19th Century Conflicts

* During the **Crimean War** (1854), an undeclared war broke out between Greece and the Ottoman Empire, with Greek irregulars invading Ottoman Epirus (Epirus Revolt of 1854) and Thessaly.
* The **First Greco-Turkish War** (1897) occurred during the Cretan Revolt (1897–1898), resulting in a brief border war between Greece and the Ottoman Empire in Thessaly.

### World War I and Its Aftermath

* During **World War I** (1914-18), Greece and the Ottoman Empire were on opposing sides, with Greece fighting in the Mediterranean and Balkans Theatre.
* The **Second Greco-Turkish War** (1919–1922) was part of the Turkish War of Independence, also known as the Asia Minor Campaign or the Western Front of the Turkish War of Independence.
