Hans Valdemar Bertelsen was a Danish diplomat.
In 1931 he entered the Danish Foreign Service.
It has been performed in all sections of the External Min: political, legal, administrative and economic sections.
From 1949 to 1954 he was Head of Section, Economic Division. and in the capacity of President negotiated agreements with France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Indonesia, Norway, Sweden and Finland.
From 1937 to 1938 he was Secretary of Danish Law in Brussels.
During the first six months of World War II he was Secretary of Danish Commercial Delegation in London.
From 1940 to 1942 he was Secretary of Danish Legation in Rome.

From 1942 to 1944 he was employed at the Danish Consulate General in Hamburg.
In August 1944 he was arrested by the Gestapo and imprisoned until the end of the war.
May to October. 1945 was Secretary of Law in Stockholm.
From 1946 to 1949 he was an embassy adviser in Washington, D C and in this capacity represented the Danish government in the North Atlantic Treaty working group.

From March 1954 to 1959 he was an ambassador to Mexico City and a concurrent accredited to the governments of Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama.
From August 1959 to May 1962 he was an ambassador to Beijing China.
In 1964 he was head of the Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
From 1967 to 1969 he was an ambassador to Beirut, Lebanon, and a concurrent accredited to the Governments of Syria, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Cyprus.
From 1969 to 1973, he was an ambassador to Rabat, Morocco, and a concurrent accredited to the Governments of Senegal and Guinea.
