Heinrich Rantzau the Younger

Heinrich/Henry Rantzau the Younger (*26). January 1599; † January 16, 1674, grandson of the Danish governor Heinrich Rantzau in Schleswig-Holstein, son of Frantz Rantzau on Schönweide (1555–1612), the founder of the Danish branch of the family, became known above all through his journey to the Orient.
Live life
He boarded on the 7th. Arriving in Venice on February 1623, traveled along the coasts of Greece and through the archipelago to Cyprus and landed in Acre. From 8 to 20. In April he was in Jerusalem, where he celebrated Easter and made the usual pilgrimages. From Jaffa he went to Egypt, where he travelled to Cairo from 8 to 28. May, visited the Pyramids of Giza, etc., and on from Alexandria to Constantinople, which he reached on July 25.
After a long stay there he entered on 18. September the return journey arrives, first via Adrianople, Philippopel, Sofia, Belgrade, Bosna Sarai, Spalato and on the Adriatic Sea to Venice.
He was Herr zu Schönweide (Plön district), as well as Aagard and other estates in Denmark, Danish Reichsrat etc. and died childless on the 16. January 1674.
