Henry Picard (Lord Mayor)

Life and Career

Sir Henry Picard was a prominent figure in London's civic life during the 14th century. He served as Sheriff of the City of London in 1348, a position that likely prepared him for his future role as Lord Mayor.

Lord Mayor of London

Picard was elected Lord Mayor of London in 1356 and held the office until 1357. This period coincided with the reign of King Edward III of England.

Diplomatic Achievements

One of Picard's most notable achievements was organizing a historic meeting between the kings of several European countries. In 1363, he facilitated a gathering known as the Five Kings Bank (also referred to as the meeting of the king of England Edward III with the kings of Scotland, France, Denmark and Cyprus). This event brought together the monarchs of England, Scotland, France, Denmark, and Cyprus, marking an important moment in European diplomacy during the 14th century.
