"Holy church of Panagia Faneromeni Corfu"

--- CONTENT ---
The sacred church of Panagia Faneromeni or as the locals say the Virgin Mary of foreigners is located in the heart of the old town of Corfu in St. Spyridon Square. This temple was built by the priest Nicodemus, during the Turkish occupation, for the church of the refugees from Epirus who ended up in Corfu.

History
The Continental element through its turbulent historical course always found a place of refuge in Corfu. During the years of Turkish rule the phenomenon was more frequent. Since the end of the 16th and early 17th centuries, however, it has taken large proportions. The failure of the various revolutionary movements (mainly Dionysius of 1611) and violent Islamism (1635) forced a large number of Continentals to resort to welcoming Corfu. Assimilation of the many Continentals was not possible. With great national and religious fanaticism they rally and feel the need to acquire their own religious space. Initiative in this need was taken by the hierarch Nicodemus Kolitsas with the help of the subscriptions of the Ionians, Dervinites, Paramythians and Stereotes, as evidenced by his will, the record of the Temple, the surviving Historical archives of Corfu and is noted in the inscription of the central entrance of the Temple. The unassociated Continentals were therefore "for the locals", which is why the temple they founded and used is called, to this day Our Lady of foreigners and is located in the center of the Old Town in Heros Square of Cyprus Race and between the streets of Dinos Theotokis (Piazza) and Captain Aris Kasfikis. It is still less than 100 meters from the Holy Temple of the patron saint of St. Spyridon Island. The plot of the Temple was donated by the Greek-born N. Vervitsiotis under the inheritance of the daughter of Theodorelas Vervitsiotis to the hieronymus Nicodemus Kolitsa, provided that a temple was built in which the names of this parents and her sons are always mentioned. The Temple was built in 1689 and the following year it began operating. The church carried out its first renovation-extension between 1727 and 1732. The outer side of the temple was permanently formed with the towering bell tower, in 1752.

Architecture of the Temple
The Church of Our Lady of Strangers is a type of three-aisled Basilica. Its inner dimensions are not entirely symmetrical, the great axis of the Temple is 16.16, and the width ranges from East 9.80 to West 9.40 meters. But along with the Temple's Narthras the rectangular parallelogram is very much restored, since Narthus presents an opposite decline from west 1,26 to east 0,90. The total structure can be described as a rectangular parallelogram measuring 16.16 m x 10.70 m and height 9.39 m The orientation of the Temple is from East to West. Its masonry is simple and the thickness of the building walls is 0.69. The morphology of the roof is a sample of Post-Byzantine Architecture and did not present
