Hubo Handbal, formerly Handbal Klub Tongeren, is a handball club located in Tongres, Belgium. The club is known as one of the best in the kingdom with six Belgian Champions titles and six Belgian Cups.

The team is a member of the VHV and operates in the BeNe League.

History

Establishment

The United HC Tongeren was founded in 1970 and received the title of Handbal club Elckerlyc Tongeren 143, and in 1974 the club created a women's section and in 2006 it was renamed United HC Tongeren.

Men
The men's section of the Handbal club Elckerlyc Tongeren, founded in 1970, did not immediately shine at the national level, as it took twenty-five years to see them compete in the Belgian Division 1 championship in the 1994/1995 season, which was then driven by Pierre Chapeaux.

While in 1997 he resigned from his position and left room for Thierry Herbillon, former coach of the HC Herstal-Liège, with whom he managed to win the title of Belgian Champion.

With this new coach, the team managed to qualify for the European Cup, a campaign, specifically in the 1998/1999 Cup of Cities where HCE Tongeren had to face the Hungarian club of SC Pick Szeged, but the Flemish team was heavily eliminated 32 to 62 (18-29;14-33).

In 1999, the club fired Thierry Herbillon and took Serbian Pedrag Dosen as its new coach, with whom the eburons won their first Belgian title in the 2002/2003 season, just under ten years after joining the elite.

Two years later, the HCE Tongeren won the Belgian Cup, then the club won several titles, under the Dosen era, with a total of two Belgian champions, and two Belgian Cups and thus several European Cup passes, including two in the Champions League.

In 2007, the club's management thanked Dosen and teamed up with coach Jos Schouterden and there too, Tongres relives because with Schouterden, the club added six new trophies to its list: three Belgian Championships (2008-2009, 2009-2010, 2011-2012), and three Belgian Cups (2008, 2009, 2011) with several European connotations.

But also, several participations in the BeNe Liga, a competition in which the eburons were fourth in the 2007/2008 season, failed to qualify in the 2008/2009 season, a new fourth in the 2009/2010 season, a third in the 2010/2011 season and 2011/2012 season.

In 2012, Jos Schouterden announced that he no longer wants to coach the first team. So management is looking for a new coach who will be none other than Pedrag Dosen who returns to Tongres, while Schouterden remains in the club structure.
