Jozef Vengloš (* 18). February 1936 in Ružomberok; † January 26, 2021 was a Slovak football coach and Czechoslovak football player.
Career
The Doctor of Philosophy Jozef Vengloš won the Cup as a player of TJ Slovan CHZJD Bratislava in 1962 and 1963 and as coach of ŠK Slovan Bratislava in 1974 and 1975 the championship in Czechoslovakia. When he had successfully led the Czechoslovak national team in personal union with Václav Ježek through the European Championship qualification in 1976 against England, Portugal and Cyprus and prevailed in the quarterfinals after two games against the Soviet Union, the CSSR took part in the European Championship tournament in Yugoslavia. In the semi-final, the combination of Bratislava and Prague prevailed with 3-1 goals after extra time against the Netherlands and thus moved into the final. On June 20, the team around the outstanding goalkeepers Ivo Viktor and Libero Anton Ondruš decided the match in Belgrade against the defending champion Germany with 5:3 goals after penalty shooting for themselves.
In qualifying for the European Championship in 1980, Vengloš was then solely responsible as head coach. He defeated France, Sweden and Luxembourg, qualifying for the 1980 finals in Italy. There he took second place behind Germany with his selection in group one and prevailed in the game for third place with 9:8 goals in penalty shooting against Italy.
The Czechoslovak national team also qualified for the 1982 World Cup in Spain. There, however, she was already eliminated in the 1st final round with two draws and one defeat from the tournament.
