Kanlıköy

Kanlıköy

Kanlıköy (; ) is a village located in the Nicosia Province of Cyprus. It is situated 5 km west of Gönyeli and has a population of 232 inhabitants.

History

The village was not listed as a separate entity until the 1946 British census, suggesting that it may have been established in the last decades of the Ottoman period as a çiftlik (factory). The name "Kanlıköy" means "village with blood" and could also be translated to "village with a blood feud". This name was retained by Turkish Cypriots after 1974, when they did not adopt a new name for the village.

Geography

Prior to the recent construction boom and suburbanization, Kanlıköy was a separate entity from Gönyeli. However, due to urban development, the two municipalities have merged together.

Administrative Status

De jure, Kanlıköy is located in the Nicosia District of Cyprus. De facto, it falls under the control of Northern Cyprus.
