Kriton Tornaritis (Lemasus 1902 – 1 March 1997) was a Greek Cypriot lawyer.

Life Story
He was born in Limassol in 1902.

He studied law at the University of Athens with distinction of excellence and was nominated for a PhD in 1923. Later, he did graduate studies in London obtaining the Barrister-at-Law title in 1936.

He successfully practiced in Limassol the profession of lawyer from 1924 to 1940. In the same town, he was a member of the Provincial Education Committee and the Inspector of the Greek Educational Institutions.

In 1940, he was appointed as Provincial Judge in Nicosia and then, in 1942, as President of the District Court of Famagusta - the first Cypriot President. In 1944, he was appointed as a general lawyer until 1952 and then as Attorney General 1952-1960.

During 1955-1959, he had been seconded as a legal adviser to the Ministry of Colonies in London and as Commissioner for the Review of Cypriot legislation, a position in which he had become familiar with the English method of public administration. From 1960-1984, he served as Attorney General of the Republic of Cyprus. He represented Cyprus at international conferences in law, international seminars and European Councils. In 1984, he was appointed Special Adviser to the President of the Republic of Cyprus on legal and other international issues.

He wrote 65 books and more than 5,000 texts, whose content was mainly legal. His work is at universities and libraries abroad. Among the dozens of honors and distinctions he awarded to him such as Queen's Counsel, Queen's Counsel, (QC) and from Athens the Academic Award for his excellent literary work.

He died on Saturday, March 1, 1997. His funeral was public expenditure on Tuesday, March 4, 1997 at the Cathedral of Panagia Evangelistrias in Pallouriotissa in Nicosia and was given full honors with the presence of President Glaukos Clerides, the Council of Ministers and the leaders of political parties in Cyprus.
