Lefke District

The Lefke District () is a de facto district of Northern Cyprus, located in the northwest of the island. It is one of the six districts of the internationally unrecognized Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

History

Lefke was previously a sub-district of the Güzelyurt District between 1998 and 27 December 2016. On that date, the Assembly of the Republic unanimously voted to separate Lefke and make it the sixth district of Northern Cyprus.

Geography

The district is situated in the northwest part of the Nicosia Accident of the Republic of Cyprus, which was divided after the 1974 Turkish invasion. The main town of the district is Lefke, also known as Lefka in Greek.

Administrative Division

Lefke District belongs to the administrative division of Northern Cyprus and has a population of 11,091 people, according to the 2011 census, which constitutes 3.9% of the total population of Northern Cyprus.

Exclave

------------

The Erenköy (Kokkina) exclave is part of the Lefke District.
