List of Former Sovereign States
A historical sovereign state is a state that once existed but was dissolved due to conflict, war, rebellion, or annexation by another state. This list includes sovereign states, countries, nations, or empires that ceased to exist as political entities sometime after 1453, grouped geographically and based on constitutional nature.
Accession Criteria
The criteria for inclusion in this list are similar to those in the list of states with limited recognition. To be included here, a state must have had real authority and control over its region, maintaining relations with other states as a recognized sovereign entity.

### Ancient and Medieval States
* **Abyssinia**: former African kingdom, corresponding to modern-day Ethiopia
* **Holy Roman Empire**: medieval empire that dissolved in the 19th century
* **Norman's Government of Europe**: brief period of Norman rule over parts of Europe (11th-12th centuries)
* **The Kingdom Land Island**: unknown or unverified state
