Special Rapporteurs ( ) are in addition to Independent Experts ( ) and Working Groups ( ) so-called Special Procedures of the UN Human Rights Council ( ), their mandates are either thematically or geographically defined.
They are usually appointed by the UN Human Rights Council for a period of three years, with their mandates often being extended once for a further three years. They are volunteers. Her working methods include country missions, thematic studies and dialogue with individual governments on individual cases of human rights violations.
