Eurovision Young Musicians

The Eurovision Young Musicians is an annual international music competition organized by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) for young musicians under the age of 18. The contest has been held since 1982 and has grown in popularity over the years, with more countries participating each year.

Despite its name, the Eurovision Young Musicians is not limited to European contestants. Several non-European countries have participated in the past, including Israel, Cyprus, Armenia, and Georgia. These countries are part of the EBU's active member broadcasters, which must be geographically located within the European Broadcasting Area or be members of the Council of Europe.

The competition has been attended by a total of 42 countries since its inception in 1982, with eleven winning at least once. The contest is held every two years and features a final round where the top performers compete for the title. In previous years, the competition was divided into semi-finals and finals, but this format was changed to eliminate one semi-final in 2006.

In recent years, the number of participating countries has increased significantly. In 1982, there were only six countries competing, while in 2018, a record-breaking 18 countries participated. The most participants in a single year were recorded in 1994 with 24 contestants.

The EBU's decision to allow non-European countries to participate was made after several of these nations expressed interest in joining the competition. Israel, Cyprus, Armenia, and Georgia have all competed in the past, showcasing the diversity of talent from around the world.

Austria and Norway are among the most frequent participants in the Eurovision Young Musicians, having competed almost every year since its inception. On the other hand, some countries like Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Moldova, Northern Macedonia, Serbia, and Serbia and Montenegro have only participated once.

The competition has undergone several format changes over the years, including the introduction of preliminary rounds in 2014-2016. However, these changes were later dropped to allow all participating countries to appear on the main stage in the finals.
