Lighthouses in Cyprus

Cyprus, the third largest island at the eastern end of the Mediterranean Sea, boasts a rich maritime history with numerous aids to navigation along its coastline. The list of lighthouses in Cyprus includes those located in both the Republic of Cyprus and Northern Cyprus, as well as British Sovereign Base Areas.

The Turkish Cyprus Coastal Safety and Salvage Directorate operates and maintains many of these lighthouses for the North and South. In the Republic of Cyprus, various authorities are responsible for maintaining different sections of the coastline. The most notable ones include Cape Akamas Lighthouse, Paphos Lighthouse, Headlight of Cape Kiti, Cape Greco Lighthouse, and Limassol Lighthouse.

Northern Cyprus also features several lighthouses, including the Cape Kormakitis Lighthouse, Kyrenia Lighthouse (1907), Cape Saint-André Lighthouse, Cape Elea Lighthouse, and Headlight of the Famagusta bastion. The latter is notable for being part of a historic fortification system.

The occupied areas of Northern Cyprus are also home to several lighthouses, including those in Akrotiri and Dhekelia. These structures serve as important navigation aids for ships traversing the Mediterranean Sea.

Historically, many of these lighthouses have played significant roles in maritime trade and commerce, guiding vessels safely through treacherous waters.
