In Egypt (Ayyubids), Sultan Saladin ruled from 1171 until his death in 1193. In Ethiopia, Emperor Na'akueto La'ab reigned from 1159 to 1207. Morocco was governed by Caliph Yaʿqūb al-Mansūr, who held power from 1184 to 1199.

In the Abbasid caliphate, Caliph an-Nasir ruled from 1180 to 1225. In Kara Kitai, Khan Yelü Zhilugu held power from 1178 until his death in 1211. Kambuja (Khmer) was governed by King Jayavarman VII, who reigned from 1181 to 1220.
