Distribution and Habitat
Lithognathus mormyrus, also known as the horseradish fish or simply horsera fish, is a species of fish that has a wide distribution across various regions. It can be found in the coastal waters of the Cantabric Sea to the Black Sea and Azov Sea, as well as in South Africa. Additionally, it is distributed in Indian and Red Sea.
The species is also endemic to Madagascar, where it inhabits semi-salted waters, oceans, and seas at a depth range of 1.5 to 150 meters. The water temperature ranges from 17.2 to 20.2 °C, and the salinity is approximately 35.3.
Description
Lithognathus mormyrus has an oval body shape that is high and compressed. It reaches a maximum length of up to 55 cm (Source 1) or 50 cm (Source 2), depending on the source. The species' life expectancy is approximately 12 years.
