Luna Park was a popular television series, aired by EIRT (from 1975 ERT) in 1974–1981. The 1st episode aired on 11 July 1974 and the last on 9 May 1981.
Factors
Luna Park was – only to this day for Greek television – a pot of self-styled sketches, music shows and game shows. The direction was by Giannis Dalianidis, who also wrote the sketch texts, a teledirector was Vassilis Vlachoditropoulos, produced by Denis Petropoulos, the sets edited by Minos Argyrakis, while the music edited by Mimis Plassas.
Stars
The character of the grumpy Mr.-Giorgis (Dionisis Papagiannopoulos), was the most characteristic and popular of all. Other main roles were the wife of Urania (Anna Paitatzi), his naive niece Catherine (Rena Pagkratis), the prodigal card Mary (Aleka General), Tula with the game of the lilies and the famous line "Five rings a talliro, please pass, rich gifts!" (Katia Athanasios) and Theodorus of the cafe (Spyros Fasianos), while the longer-lived presenter was Vangelis Voulgaridis. In fact, two of the protagonists, Nikos and Rena (Nikos Dadinopoulos and Mary Evangelou), after meeting in the context of filming and after their television marriage with Mr.-Giorgis as best man in an episode of Luna Park in 1977, became a couple in life in 1979.
Material
A total of 330 episodes were shot and for several years Luna Park was the second longest-lived serial after the Frontier Station series, which was then aired by the YENED and reached 349 episodes. Later Luna Park passed into fourth place, after the first two positions were taken away by the series of ANT1, Shining and Good morning Life (which were directed by Nikos Foskolus), and third place the Forbidden Love, Mega Channel, while in the following years they took over Luna Park's episode record and other daily series of private television, while now in recent years the longest-lived series of ERT's archive, is considered the daily series. In Cupid's Wings, which reached a total of 633 episodes, and was aired unmistakably from 1999 to 2004.
The series is not saved in the ERT archive, except for the last episode, which can be searched whole in the ERT digital archive (see here), while some scattered small extracts from other episodes have been seen. The series was also aired by RIK in Cyprus from late 1974 to 1981. Quotes of the series were shown some years later in the first and fifth episode of the information series The serial series (1991–1992), based on ERT's then available archive material and factor interviews.
In 1976 a vinyl album was released entitled "Luna Park", which included 13 songs and sketches, performed by the actors in the series, in epistaxis
