'MEDA 'is the main financial tool for the European Union in implementing what is known as'European Mediterranean Partnership' (Euroovo-Meditranite) with the state of the Eastern and Southern Mediterranean. It's about Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey, Cyprus and Malta (the last two to join the EU on May 1, 2004). It comes out of conventional development assistance, and it's similar to the FAA programs and the TACS, because the main goal of financial cooperation with the Mediterranean region is economic transformation and free trade zones. The budget of the number on 2000 - 2006 is 5.35 billion euros.
