Marians Pahars

Early Life and Career

Marians Pahars (born August 5, 1976) is a former Latvian football player and current coach.

Biography

Pahars was born in Chernobaj, Ukrainian SSR. He began his career in Latvia, playing for Skonto-Metals, where he quickly established himself as a talented young player. In 1998, he scored 19 goals in 26 matches and decided to join a foreign team.

Career

Pahars played for several clubs, including Salernitana, Werder Bremen, and Casino Salzburg, before moving to Southampton in March 1999. He became the first Latvian player in the Premiership and made his debut on April 5, 1999. Pahars played for seven seasons in England.

International Career

Pahars is a former international footballer who represented Latvia's national team. He was known for playing as an assailant and was a key player for the team. In 1999, 2000, and 2001, he was awarded Football Player of the Year in Latvia.

Pahars stands at 174 cm (5 ft 8.5 in) tall and weighs 67 kg (148 lb).

Coaching Career

After retiring as a player, Pahars went on to become a coach for Latvia's national team.
