Early Life and Club Career

Max Lorenz was born on September 19, 1939, in Bremen-Hemelingen. He grew up in the same district and began his football career at SV Hemelingen, progressing through the youth stations and into senior football.

In 1960, he joined Werder Bremen, a North league team, and became a contract player for the 1960/61 season. Lorenz made his debut on September 4, 1960, in a 7-1 home win against Bremerhaven 93 in the top division North.

International Career

Lorenz played as a midfielder for the German national football team from 1965 to 1970, earning 19 caps. He was selected for the 1966 World Cup but did not play any games. Germany finished as finalists in this tournament.

In the 1970 World Cup playoffs against Cyprus, Lorenz scored his only goal in a match that ended with a score of 12-0 in favor of Germany. At the 1970 World Cup in Mexico, he played one game, replacing Karl-Heinz Schnellinger in the third-place playoff against Uruguay.
