Alosa fallax, also known as the Saboga or Mediterranean shad, is a species of fish in the Clupeidae family. It is found in a wide range of countries, including Albania, Algeria, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Egypt, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Lebanon, Lithuania, Malta, Morocco, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Serbia and Montenegro, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey, and the United Kingdom.

Habitat and Distribution in Specific Regions

In addition to its widespread distribution across Europe and North Africa, Alosa fallax is also found in specific regions. In Madagascar, it is endemic, meaning that it can be found nowhere else on Earth. Similarly, in Brazil, this species is also endemic.

Physical Characteristics and Life Expectancy

Alosa fallax has a weight of approximately 1500 grams. Its life expectancy is around 25 years, with its population considered stable.

Environmental Preferences

This species occurs at depths ranging from 9 to 153 meters, in waters with temperatures between 2.6°C and 11.9°C, and salinity levels of up to 6.1.
